Building a Robust Digital Infrastructure for K-12 Education

Digital infrastructure — internet, data network, hardware, software and the like — is so much a part of the public education system that it’s hard to imagine a time when it didn’t exist. Digital technologies have made it possible to document each student’s academic history, from attendance and grades to lunch accounts and extracurricular activities. These systems offer access to a wealth of information and experiences. But, as with any great advancement, there’s a catch. These technologies also pose a risk to the privacy and security of sensitive information.
