Modern data management is about more than just collecting, storing or organizing data. It involves understanding the type of data your organization collects, where this information is stored across your enterprise, who has access to it, and the relative value and life cycle of it. Achieving modern data management will be an ongoing process for government agencies. To better understand their current data maturity and where they are along this path, the Center for Digital Government (CDG) surveyed 306 state and local government IT officials in the areas of public safety, health and human services, finance and administration, and transportation and infrastructure. This report highlights several challenges — but also key opportunities — for organizations to leverage data as a key asset to better serve the public.
